Bio
Salamanders have been linked to fire as far back as the times of Aristotle (384-322 BCE.); the word salamander is of Greek origin, and translates roughly to "Fire-Lizard". It was believed that salamanders were immune to fire, and could extinguish fire with skin secretions. In 1607, Edward Topsel published the book The History of Four-Footed Beasts and Serpents, which, along with illustrations of newts and salamanders resembling serpents and dragons, hypothesizes about the ability of salamanders to extinguish fire, receive nourishment from fire, and traverse through fire unscathed.

Death Note - Tokusou Kira han (NU!Yuuta)
Persona 3 - Burn My Dread -last battle- (AU!Yuuta)

history;

Though Fuji Yuuta was born with a slightly higher than average body temperature, he'd always seemed like a healthy, normal boy. He lived an average life, but with a not-so-average brother. Fuji Shuusuke was, in essence, a genius who excelled in almost everything he did; Yuuta visibly paled in comparison, irritating the younger brother through most of his teenaged life.

Compounding this feeling of inferiority was a little incident involving camp, a bully, and the survival strategy of Stop-Drop-and Roll. Suffice it to say, Yuuta knew there was no way in hell a flame could just leap 5 feet and catch that bully on fire, though all reports said that there was a freak shift in the wind-- though, how did that explain the burn marks where Yuuta had tried to grab the bully? By then, Yuuta knew there was something strange about him, and that it had something to do with his parents' vehement tirades about those dangerous people with unexplicable abilities. Yuuta kept quiet about his own budding abilities and tried to live normally, all the while growing more irritated by his perfect brother's success in school, and the fact that Shuusuke had nothing to hide.

But then, everything changed again. An incident at school involving Shuusuke and his own powers left Yuuta in shock and without a brother. Their parents banned Yuuta from having anymore contact with Shuusuke, and while he could have made an effort to contact his brother, Yuuta never did. Instead, for those two years, he lived in the Fuji household, listening to his parents' bigotted remarks about mutants as if Shuusuke never existed. But now, he won't quietly listen anymore.

powers;

Yuuta's core body temperature is higher than normal by human standards. Triggered by emotional stress, especially anger, it can climb to higher levels. At a high enough temperature, Yuuta would be able to burn anything flammable with contact. In the future with proper training, Yuuta will be able to control how much heat he will produce, and when.

Also, when his powers are able to develop, they'd evolve so that he'll be able to psionically manipulate flames. He'll be able to increase or decrease a flame's intensity and heat, and also change its size and shape. Also, the bigger the flame, the more concentration he'll need to tame it. However, he'll need to actually see the flames in order to control them.

Yuuta is also naturally resistant against fire and he absolutely abhors water in general. Anything below lukewarm he will not tolerate, since he feels it's much too cold for him. He'll drink water, but only when it's very hot.

sample narrative/tag;

Yuuta frowned down at the stew he was stirring, watching it swirl with each stroke as he listened to his parents bicker. He'd been following the news as well, once he'd heard about the government occupation of Ryuhana... the school where his brother was currently attending.

"Finally, the government did something right," said his mother for the fifty-ninth time, his father wholeheartedly agreeing. In fact, they wanted more stringent rules regarding mutants. His parents wanted them to be hunted down and locked away forever, away from "normal" human society. Those freaks shouldn't be allowed to co-exist with them! What if their disease was contagious?

They spoke disgustedly about such mutants, and Yuuta could only frown further, his hand gripping tighter around his wooden spoon. He probably wouldn't have minded his parents expressing their... opinion about mutants, if he hadn't realized he was one of them years before. No, what probably irked him the most was that they spoke about mutants in such a way, when they knew their own eldest son was one of those "diseased." And they spoke about mutants, about him, as if they were insigificant and should be wiped out... perhaps they even denied Aniki even existed.

Mrs. Fuji turned from her place at the kitchen counter when there was a lull in the conversation, wiping her brow. "Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?" she asked, turning her eyes toward her youngest and now favorite son's direction. She blinked at her son's back, as she thought she saw a flick of orange and blue. She stepped closer, touching his shoulder lightly, only to reflexively jerk back in pain as if she'd plunged her hand into the hot stew instead. She clutched her red hand, eyes wide not at Yuuta exactly, but rather, the roaring fire underneath the cooking pot, its flames burning high and threateningly; there was no way their small gas stove could produce that much fire.

"...Oh my God!" she screamed, jerking Yuuta out of his smoldering thoughts, and his eyes widened at the dying flames.

At that moment, he realized he couldn't hide anymore.
